About Brian
Brian was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, in the spring of 2000 during his junior year at Brother Rice High School. Although he was unable to attend his senior year, he was invited to participate in the graduation ceremony, where he was honored with the "Spirit Award" by the faculty and staff.
Determined to continue his education, Brian took two classes at Brother Rice and two at Oakland Community College, ultimately earning his high school diploma in the spring of 2002. Throughout his battle with cancer, he underwent chemotherapy teams at William Beaumont Hospital and experimental inhaler treatments at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Despite his illness, Brian's compassion, zest for life, love of sports, and sense of humor never faded. He remained thoughtful and selfless, dictating letters to friends and family and selecting gifts to be given after his passing on April 1, 2003.
